Egg Recall Expanded After Salmonella Outbreak
Created on August 19, 2010
According to the New York Times, the egg recall has been expanded. The Iowa based company that produces the eggs broadened its recall from 228 million to 380 million eggs on Wednesday after some of the company’s facilities were linked to an outbreak of salmonella that has sickened hundreds of people across the country.
New sources in states like California, Minnesota, and Colorado are reporting public health officials have determined that many of the people who had gotten sick had eaten food containing eggs and the eggs have been traced back to Wright County Egg.
The New York Times article say that “the company behind the recall, Wright County Egg, of Galt, Iowa, is owned by Jack DeCoster, who has had run-ins with regulators over poor or unsafe working conditions, environmental violations, the harassment of workers and the hiring of illegal immigrants.”
