A judge handed down a maximum sentence Monday to a woman convicted in a drunken driving crash
Created on August 17, 2010An article in the Las Vegas Sun explains District Court Judge Jennifer Togliatti handed down the maximum sentence for a woman convicted of driving drunk and then killed a 29-year-old man.
The article says the woman, Miranda Dalton, was sentenced to eight to 20 years in prison and ordered to pay $11,581 in restitution. The article also explains that the victim’s family asked for the maximum sentence under state law.
Police say Dalton, who was 28 when the crash happened, admitted to drinking at a bar that night and then driving home. Police say a breath test conducted shortly after the crash showed an alcohol level more than double the legal limit of .08. The article says Dalton rear-ended Paul Maidman's car at the intersection of Cheyenne Avenue and Soaring Gulls Drive and he later died from his injuries at UMC.
Maidman’s family attended the sentencing and said they were pleased Dalton received the maximum sentence. What do you think? Are 8 to 20 years too much or too little for a DUI crash that kills someone? The RJ said Dalton had a previous driving under the influence conviction from a 2001 case. Weigh in, what do you think?
